Caijing is one of the most reputable outlets in China. Their article on the #coronavirus was censored today. It claims significant underreporting of both cases & deaths, especially among the elderly. Here it is: http://archive.is/ObawP  Translation: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Farchive.is%2FObawP …pic.twitter.com/ygCJkTsboK

Key points: - some deaths being recorded as "general pneumonia" - lack of test kits - people going home to die - 7 hospitals with "no beds" Most importantly: "the number of confirmed and fatal cases that people can see...does not fully reflect the full picture of the epidemic"pic.twitter.com/8xdy73zQHO

If half the claims in this article are true, #nCoV2019 seems to have completely overloaded Wuhan's healthcare system. It appears particularly deadly for the elderly. But this 45 year old had to be anesthetized and intubated in order to breathe.pic.twitter.com/3LSh6D5St8

Are any healthcare systems of countries outside of China ready to deal with this at scale if it comes to their country?

Current CDC Clinical Criteria ignores: asymptomatic cases, travel outside of China, and contact with non-confirmed cases So many potential scenarios missed by Clinical Criteria. Ignored cases may = transmission cc @ScottGottliebMD @mattocko @rtnarch https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-criteria.html …

This we already know. Mortality in Wuhan is 5.5%. Mortality in Hubei province is about 1% excluding Wuhan, and about 0.3% excluding Hubei. This points to a healthcare system unable to cope.

I read the original article in Chinese - it is consistent with information I am receiving from friends and family inside China. There has been little info coming from people inside Wuhan over the last couple of days though, but circumstantial evidences seem to support the article

There's no question that Wuhan healthcare system is absolutely overwhelmed. Actual number of infected is prob much higher than officially diagnosed. But there's prob a silver lining: death rate of the virus is significantly lower in normal circumstances.

I don't know about the quality of the statistics in other areas, but Wuhan is a New Tier-1 city and is almost certainly better resourced than other Asian countries, and a lot of resources had to be sent to Wuhan from other provinces. It is really sad for the world at the moment.
