With that said, this may grow in popularity for a few reasons. 1) Police can now engage potentially violent suspects without threat of physical harm to their person. This may decrease fear-related overreactions. 2) As “remote work for police”, could see some preferring this.

3) On the third hand, if the police are physically separated from the people they are policing, that could lead to alienation. And less qualms about the use of force. 4) America arguably pioneered drones for “policing” of remote war zones. See Eye in the Sky, Good Kill, etc.pic.twitter.com/eTMYa99t0m

Assuming that source is true, the video includes a mix of non-police and police uses of drones. 1) There is a policewoman pictured in the video, so police do appear to be using drones 2) Global Times uses the term “patrol” 3) Other sources from Sept confirm police use of dronespic.twitter.com/uCFzVmCMw7

Very innovative, maybe use a drone to respond? The tone is friendly, although could be a slippery slope. Then again, most innovations have potential downsides. China is not afraid to innovate though, and has less debates to worry about.

Yeah. I actually totally get the appeal of doing this: more sanitary, has less downside for the police, it's more scalable, and so on. And it's a way to ensure that public order is maintained even when people are scared of a virus. But the downsides are also obvious.

Original video appears to show a police woman, and other sources talk about traffic cops using drones. I guess the claim is the first person with the drone is a vigilante influencer? Though it’s an unusual editing choice by Global Times. https://futurism.com/the-byte/police-drone-orders-chinese-driver …pic.twitter.com/DNHqLLY21I
