Things can change, of course. Just 42 years ago, capitalism was illegal in China and entrepreneurship was punishable by death. So, it's hard to predict many decades out. Like the Empire State Building, 410 days Rebuilt Bay Bridge 11 years construction, 24 with planning We have environmental review, OSHA, etc. good things. 100 years ago we didn’t and built fast as China does today. Safety is good but are we making the right tradeoffs?

The trouble is the US now does this much more slowly and at much higher cost than other developed countries. It’s not safety regulations - it’s incompetence and bad process.

China really bad benchmark, and quality of their work often questionable. Better benchmark will be places like South Korea, and still, they are order of magnitude better than the US in general and the Bay Area in particular.

For the record, China can't build a train station in a day. Such a preposterous statement ruins your credibility. In addition, there is a balance between speed of completion and careful review of plans, permits, building inspections that serves the public's long term interests.
