• Duolingo is high quality spaced repetition for foreign language • Anki is forgivably clunky generalized spaced repetition • There is no duolingo for learning, say, UNIX tools When software is done eating the world, I imagine all three will be duolingo quality.

Open source devs and DIY enthusiasts serve the “good enough” need for people willing to put in an order of magnitude more effort. Someday, I expect it’ll be possible to create small businesses that create professionally curated high quality tools similar to Anki for UNIX tools.

IMO, Duolingo does a great job at UI, gamification, staging and prioritizing difficulty, providing pre-made flash cards, etc. That is what I why I think it is the standard for other things getting really good in the future
