Founder poll! I had a debate w/another VC last week. My stance: it's better to talk to founders respectfully even if it means holding back harsh but accurate feedback. Other VC's view: people prefer you being direct, even if you come off like a big jerk. What do founders prefer?

I really appreciated harsh feedback in the past from
@jeremysliew,@balajis, and plenty of partners at YC. A particularly bad experience with a different VC involved harsh critique interrupting me like 3 minutes into a sit down pitch at their office. That’s no good.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -
Replying to @backus @lpolovets and
FWIW, I'm not saying direct and nice. I didn't view the examples I mentioned as nice. I think one of the most sensitive boundaries when VCs and founders talk is the VC prematurely sounding like they know enough about the founder's problem. That is what it is all about.

VC doesn't need anything close to the context the founder has. VC spends all their time searching for companies w/ the right growth patterns, founder characteristics, etc. Founder just needs to feel like the VC had enough time to reason about these properties.
