Wtf has an ico got to do with decentralisation? Something like Argos could sell loyalty points via an ico. The utter bollocks people believe in is ridiculous. #cryptocurrencyhttps://twitter.com/backus/status/991187973776461825 …
How is this even contentious? Show me a token sale that is for a product that has nothing to do with decentralization

Putting aside the obvious scams like ncash, or the centralised bollocks like neo, look at all the tokens that are in game currencies, air miles, loyalty points that companies put up for sale. Or tokens that are sold on the cheap during early development. They've existed for ages.

But I can understand if your definition of tokens don't go beyond the new age vapourware scams. EOS is obviously more valuable than SpaceX.

And as for protocols, standardised ones like http are brought forth by peer reviewed research and collaboration with the industry. ICOs come up with a text based interchange format and call it a protocol. As for advancement, what ICO did http2 use?
