Questions: • Is this just what it feels like to be inside the Gartner hype cycle? • Did we figure out how to use the medium properly? • Is this adoption rate actually just a chart about mobile phone usage? In other words, did it just get easier to consume podcasts?

The asterisk on the graph probably explains the dip, and if you squint your eyes to ignore it, the adoption rate looks basically constant. Where do you see stagnation?

Yeah 2013 they improved the definition of what a podcast is. The definition change was just like "not just any mp3 download counts." With that said, % of people listening to podcasts monthly still grew really slowly between 2009 and 2013. 11%, 12%, 12%, 14%, 12%.

Interesting. My guess is it’s better understood as chasm crossing than hype cycle. In particular, I don’t think they ever had a hype phase (custom search 07-08). Also, ngram is interesting: podcasts as popular as blogs in 04!pic.twitter.com/5bjAJTgS2C
