Idea (courtesy of @khyperia ):
Don’t use a FizzBuzz test to judge basic computer science knowledge in an interview, use it to judge how nervous/uncomfortable the candidate is with that kind of interviewing style.

I’ve failed a FizzBuzz-level question on a senior engineering interview, because nerves But instead of recognizing it as nerves the interviewer ended the interview early in clear disgust, said he wasn’t sure how I was able to hold down an engineering job without that knowledge

(Or alternative: just don’t ask the candidate to write any kind of code during the interview, or have different test styles- ie take home, in person, etc- to choose from)

We tried take home tasks for a while at my company. One issue is it biased towards engineers who aren’t as in demand and have more incentive to do a take home task. Tough when you’re really small and not looking for junior engineers yet.
