As a boring person™, I strive for accuracy and correctness, nor interestingness. But how would you define an opinion here? I have a repertoire of facts, but it seems that opinions are not that much different from facts, just with lower confidence.

Really great question haha. I had to write a short essay to myself in order to formalize this in a way I'd be happy with...

I definitely do the "high-impact" thing -- it feels like a duty to resist a trend. After all, every trend has its excesses and trends don't need help to continue, only to reverse.

Strength of opinion is an indicator of broader satisfaction in life. When things are going well, people have strong opinions. When they’re burned out and beat down, opinions weaken.
-
Respectfully, I suspect the opposite -- when people feel threatened and powerless, they use strong opinions to maintain a feeling of power. This leads to divisiveness, extremism, etc. as we see today.

I personally just really enjoy ideas and discovering new ideas. I'll hold opinions sometimes just to force myself to try and discover things I wouldn't otherwise. But obviously I do tend to pick the things I believe to be accurate over time.
-
I think I also will hold an opinion when I first come across it if I find it exciting, even if I'm not sure yet if it's correct
