Have you read Understand by Ted Chiang? Takes a different approach but has some of the same thematic elements

Not yet but
@rsnous has been recommending Chiang to me for years so I really have no excuse -
Highly highly recommend. Stories of your Life and Others (which includes Understand) is a great place to start
-
I’m sure I’ll be evangelizing it by next year and kicking myself for not reading it earlier lol
-
Ditto this; the fact that they’re so short makes the experience even more striking!

Awesome book; actually the one that got me back into reading
-
Makes sense. Explores interesting topics, good story, and the way it’s written makes it very fun. Love books that play with the medium like this
-
Yeah for sure. It’s also the go to example I give people when to explain what I mean by hard science fiction; using minimal technological changes to cast light upon the society and the human condition. Not aliens but they’re just people that are blue
-
If you haven’t gotten around to it yet, I’d highly recommend The Three Body problem as a superlative example of the genre
-
Thanks I’ll probably just buy it right now then. Really high praise for this book
-
Awesome; I’m excited for you. Probably my favorite fiction series

Nice! Really like the alt take on “the devil is in the details” at the end :)

Great write up! This is not very relevant but reminds me of this thread on IQhttps://twitter.com/primalpoly/status/1058759070797033473?s=21 …

Thanks! And yeah, I’ve been slowly reading
@StuartJRitchie’s book on IQ. A friend recommended Flowers for Algernon after discussing IQ. I included some interpretations about IQ in the review, but I still hold the belief that it’s overwhelmingly positive for IQ to go up.
