having Very Online friends helps a lot since they can be a kind of tour guide guide. Many of my interests have come from @rsnous being like “interesting stuff is happening over in this part of the internet, go check it out”

i havent heard of post-rationalism! how do you summarize it for newcomers?
-
I don’t have a good summary. Part of what motivated the deep dive. Reading list I’m working through: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KxvU7nQ8PuNHNPeTDRz72HhIKcN8CsIRhbPDtsYe7-4/mobilebasic …
-
fair enough. figured i’d ask, and thanks for the list! i def have some ribbonfarm posts earmarked. esp that Office series.
-
Sure thing. I wish I could give more of a description. I've been bugging a lot of people for their take on it. I'm like 100 essays in and I can't give a one sentence answer

Yes! Always love discovering new rabbit holes. Like when ctbeiser (whoa his account is gone) linked me to the group you all were part of
-
Yes! he was the inspiration in this case and I would have h/t’d. He reactivates for a few days a month so you gotta catch him when he’s around lol

Whoa. Cicada rhythms of the internet

I wonder if the thing we need to do is figure out norms that are low friction for improving legibility and summarization of our subgroups. For example I wish groups of friends stored their data in a way that could be externalized in future. Like we do for presidents
-
I think to a considerable extent that that is antithetical to the structure and functions of subcultures. Much of the entire point is to be a 'warren' which is 'illegible' so they can develop safely and in isolation. LW could never have developed if we had normies around.
-
Heh, actually read something from
@Meaningness on that topic yesterday thanks to @ctbeiser’s your guiding:https://meaningness.com/geeks-mops-sociopaths … -
Yes. I'm also thinking ofhttps://www.ribbonfarm.com/2010/10/27/warrens-plazas-and-the-edge-of-legibility/ …

I suspect that the realization of such a thing would have effects similar to a cross between Lovecraft's Necronomicon and the mythical film at the heart of Infinite Jest
