I agree. Think positive in micro. But we are Macro heading away from many nonfungible subcultures for average person. (I think good chance this could reverse of course). After all the OG subcultures was proximity when traveling was hard;)

Social media extends and changes social capital. But social capital always existed--even before social media as an alternative system and currency to financial capital
Main value I see is captured by what we're doing right now. Social capital existed before, but without whatever SV twitter subculture we're part of, we might not have communities where we can cash in these thoughts. Specialized interests are only legible in specialized groups.
