Would love to see this as a metric that products optimize for. How polite are you in demanding a users attention? Are your products interjections aggressive and rude? Reminds me of your thread on notifications and how they make you feel.

I think UX as manners metaphor is excellent. Furthermore I like to think of it as the waiter at a restaurant who—at the other end of rude—isn’t needy, doesn’t get in the way. She appears just when you need it, quietly. And my water glass is always filled the moment I finish it.
