Thiel is also against lean startups

haha I was wondering if someone would point this out. Yeah, I ran out of space in the tweet. Also, I've seen
@rabois publicly defend the anti-lean startup position on Twitter before so figured he was worth mentioning -
its fine since thiel is like anti everything ;)
-
Yup. That's the whole "secret and right" / contrarian thing. I agree with it, hence the "hopefully wrong on average" joke in my bio. Emphasizing my preference for strategically valuable stances over being "right" as much as possible
-
Ye that secret and right thingy makes it cool i once had contrarion in my bio... lol

John, please show me an average startups and average founder to which average advice applies... :) all advice is context dependent.
-
Yeah, "all advice is context dependent" is my point
-
What I meant explicitly is that there is no global advice, as you call it. Maybe with an exception of silver rule: Do not treat others the way you would not like to be treated.

I make the case here on ideas > execution too (last section) https://florentcrivello.com/index.php/2018/07/29/mind-the-moat-a-7-powers-review/ …pic.twitter.com/StmqUbLGFj

There’s a bad rap for those with “grand visions” Execution is needed to make it happen. However, the founder can build the execution, I mean executive team to make it happen Knowing where to go, and how to get there are distinct talents. The latter is more easily employable

I always thought ideas > execution . Isn’t Twitter a great example?

Most advice of this type is just an easily transmittable heuristic. Real wisdom is deeply encoded in our brains and hard to transmit. Yes heuristics can really change their effectiveness if you change the context that they’re used!

Social/Economic abstractions ("global" advice) can't be taken as laws. The map is not the territory.
