Let’s develop a norm of it being acceptable to say “no” to an invite for the simple reason that you are feeling introverted that day/week I do it fairly frequently, but it still feels quite rude. But it certainly seems better than a lie or attending and not wanting to be there

IMO we basically do have a norm for “I’m feeling introverted”, it is just sensitive enough that we all prefer obvious white lies. Similar to dating, we all know certain things mean “I’m not interested” 95% of the time but we actually want that 5% as a little ego buffer.

The thing about obvious white lies as the norm is it’s a per-person currency you can run out of, which is what I think people calling for an explicit norm actually want to change. Sometimes people force you to burn thru your excuse budget and you’re forced to make a harder choice
