A lot of people build a name for themselves by taking uncontroversial potshots at early stage tech. I think this hurts in the long run. The HN commenter crowd cheers as you punch down, but you're also alienating the actual risk takers that you can't see yet.

Agree with you that these discussions tend to swing WILDLY between "X is going to transform everything" and "X is just overhyped bs". (Blockchain being an obvious example of this). In general I prefer discussions of ACTUAL urgent problems that might be solved by x.
