There are certain goals where trying to rush it almost guarantees failure. Refined taste, contrarian viewpoints on complex topics, high leverage startup ideas. Better to be shamelessly basic for years, lurking and waiting for real depth.

“Hipster” may be a negative term b/c it represents a rushed approach to uniqueness. I don’t think high value uniqueness in a person (taste, viewpoints, ambitions) looks like uniform uniqueness. Maybe that person looks mainly basic w/ a few facets seeming totally out of left field
