I like running outside way more than on a treadmill. On treadmills, there is nothing to look at besides the distance stat measured in 0.01 mile increments. Makes the subjective experience feel way longer.

Would something like magic leap help create the feeling of having gone somewhere - if yes the question is where would you want to go

If it was seamless, I’d definitely opt into a Black Mirror-esque super gamified exercise experience with VR/AR. Assuming it isn’t “chocolate covered vegetables” (stealing a term from
@andy_matuschak) I think that would be incredible. -
That sounds fun. I need to finish Black mirror!

Treadmills have a STOP button that you can press anytime & go home. When you run outdoors & want to go home, the fastest way is to keep running until you’re home. When I need to run 20 miles, I pick a point 10 miles away, knowing my desire to get home will get me thru the 2nd 10.

Running is exercise for the brain - it has to process both quick visual stimuli and process where to place next feet in realtime
