When obsessed w/ a topic, it feels like half of my creativity is fixed. Like walking around w/ a puzzle piece trying to fit it to everything else Curious: if you can force the topic, which pays off most? Ex: Signaling colors human behavior differently, lots of subjective data

What major unanswered questions are you still tackling in your current topic?

I think I have a narrative for relationship between decentralization, UX, and product/market fit. How much can I validate w/ anonymizing tech like Tor? What doesn't apply to blockchain? How big a diff does for-profit funding make compared to way less market-wide funding in past?

I can't force the topic, tbh. Or at least I have yet to figure out how. I do have both long-ranging interests (practical epistemology, how subcultures function) and short, intense obsessions (usually more aesthetically oriented)

I can't globally pick, but sometimes I have multiple things I'm into and I can choose. Scroll far back in my feed and you'll see me suddenly switch from tweeting @ribbonfarm stuff daily to p2p, for example. I'm like you, but most of my long-run interests were obsessions first

I feel like those attempts to shoehorn the shiny new topic into anything is just one of the many ways we experiment with ideas

Yeah, I agree. In this case, I meant that the shoe horning becomes an unconscious background process. As long as I keep adding more data to the top of mind topic, the creative part just happens

It's definitely an unconscious background process! I've noticed that monitoring it/being mindful of that process is crucial for designers or else they end up copying trendy aesthetics without thinking about it.
