More interesting to rewind to 1997 when RIAA took down @dweekly’s mp3 website. Starting at pure centralization, p2p’s evolution becomes legible: decentralizing as little as possible w/ new legal precedents set annually

Yep I got nastygrams from music industry lawyers in 1995 for my web page hosting a collection of mp2 and .au Prince Bootlegs. Before this people shared them on newsgroups or the occasional open ftp server.

I just realized that the mp3 file format had predecessors. It has been the standard format for so long, I had never heard of mp2.
