iTunes/Spotify/Soundcloud are interesting and I do think there are big lessons (something like "decentralized protocols as foreshadowing for markets"). "market incentives led to centralization" isn't right takeaway IMO. Partially accurate but misses out on other insights

File sharing showed that people want don't want to buy by the album but and they do want to consume a lot of music. Later successful businesses required strong relationships with industry and file sharing protocols became popular by stepping on the toes of the industry.

File sharing didn't go away. BitTorrent is still very popular as a medium (and not just for piracy) and torrent websites like OiNK and http://what.cd have been called the best collections of music humans have ever created. PopcornTime is in a similar boat IMO
