So true. I wonder if Adults stangnate not because of their failure to learn, but rather, their failure to unlearn.

I imagine it has to have some effect. I've lost track of how many priming related studies didn't replicate. I have this whole web of intuition that I'm not sure how to revert
-
Hmm, seems our mental models are less stable than we think. These root-level reverts cause too much cognitive dissonance. I suppose this could be seen as both a bug and a feature depending on a person's situation.

I don’t disagree with the general point, but some commentary on the SSC subreddit suggests this new study isn’t damning to the marshmallow test https://www.reddit.com/r/slatestarcodex/comments/8m70ae/breaking_news_priming_marshmallow_test_and_moral/ …https://www.reddit.com/r/slatestarcodex/comments/8o0618/why_rich_kids_are_so_good_at_the_marshmallow_test/ …

Ever since I learned they were offering children one crappy mini-marshmallow for waiting 15 minutes, though, I’ve decided you’d have to be insane to take that deal (or stealing an idea: have a strong desire to please adults/pass tests). JetPuff or bust!

That article is terrible though. Achievement doesn't correlate with the marshmallow test when controlled for other things that correlate with the marshmallow test. Well obviously. But that says nothing about causality!

It's entirely possible that a high SES background promotes delayed gratification and that this causes the increase in educational attainment.

IQ of children correlates with parents income. I think what they say is children with higher IQ are more likely to delay gratification. So, if you control by IQ - there's no difference. Which in fact supports the original research.
