Almost like it's designed for users? who don't give a fuck about gross affinity to a specific 'news' website?

Beyond the advertising impacts there is the issue of trust. I trust the verge staff, there are plenty of "news" outlets that I have been fed by the Google algorithm that are mostly advertorial content which should not be trusted. If you started on the verge you should stay there.
-
If you're on an AMP page you didn't start on The Verge.
-
Yes you did, because Google Search automatically redirect you to the AMP version of any page... Whether you like it or not
-
So where did you start?
-
It’s Google abusing its power to prevent you from going where you want and from leaving their platform. Sure you started on Google, but when you tap "The verge" it shouldn’t hijack the page to promote competitor website content
-
If people wanted The Verge's opinion on Avengers they'd go to The Verge or google that. If someone just goggle's Avengers they probably don't care what site comes up. Once they're done reading, seeing a list of other Avengers stories is more helpful than a link to a phone review.
-
Why would you go directly to The Verge if you don’t know if they did an article about it ? No... You’ll search Google about a subject and tap on a website you know and trust. Google doesn’t have the right to hijack the website to display "promoted content" which earn them money

Depends on the flow. If I specifically navigate to The Verge, I should stay there until I specifically leave. If I'm just Googling shit then algorithm can algorithm all they want.

AMP is the most evil thing to hit the web since Flash animations of fonts zooming towards you. As a user I just can't stand it. Send me to the damn site I clicked on, Google. Not your own. I hope Apple disables AMP in Safari Mobile.

So we like it when Google sends us traffic from elsewhere. We don't like Google send our traffic elsewhere. Is that it?
-
The point is that if Google is leveraging AMP to inject Google-generated content into websites, that's a cost websites have to account for when deciding whether to use AMP.
-
One guy tested AMP 6 months Google launched it. He found it inflated impressions & engagements by 4x. In DoubleClick. Google said they knew but couldn’t fix it. They told publishers that AMP drives 2x more traffic. (for 2 public quarters). Why use AMP at all?
-
If someone finds your story on Google. And clicks on it... Shouldn't the publisher just get the traffic? Why bother to keep that traffic in Google's ecosystem? Why let Google share the ad revenue? What's the upside for the publisher?
-
Faster on mobile - that’s it I think?
-
Hardly worth it for a publisher to forego their traffic.
