A huge welcome to Dominik Bach, a new PI at the WCHN! Following the award of an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2018, he now joins the WCHN as Principal Fellow, where he will focus on how humans compute rapid motor actions to avoid threat. Link to his lab here: .

Previously showed this for frequency sweeps , now replicating for static sounds w/o discriminative temporal information. Not explained by RF remapping or top-down attention. (2/2)

5/5 Translating such a paradigm back to rodents would be fantastic - though unclear whether mice would understand the task. We've recently tried with a (much) simpler version.

4/5 We find that broad MTL lesions impair decision to approach and return to safety. Selective HC lesions only impair decision to approach. Selective amy lesions only impair return to safety. This suggests more specific functions for these two regions.

3/5 In most AAC tests, behavioural readouts collapse multiple actions. Eg. more open arm time in EPM can be due to faster approach, but also delayed withdrawal. Our new test separates 3 actions: decision to approach, delay of the implementation, and delay of return to safety.

2/5 In rodent AAC tests, aHC lesions consistently reduce cautious (aka "anxiety-like") behaviour. But amy is inconsistently reported. In our previous human test, both HC and amy lesions had the same effect.
