I start to lose grip strength and have to use hook grip and chalk after about my 6-8th rep @ 90% 1RM. I should probably start taking beta-alanine. I refuse to use alternating grip though, even if it does slow me down a little. I want a balanced body.

No. I refuse. If I cannot lift it with an overhand grip, then I am not worthy. That is my mindset. The most I will do is use chalk.

Cool, that’s your mindset. Our mindset is to lift with mixed grip, alternating. That doesn’t make us weak, so stop flaming random people for using mixed grip.

You're right, it doesn't make you weak. I was just razzing y'all. But it is indicative of a lagging grip strength which shouldn't be ignored if total strength is your goal and it can have potetentially negative effects, i.e. imbalances and higher potential for injury.

Also, when raw grip strength isn't enough that's when the hook grip should be utilized if you can handle the pain. Most people are wimps though and have no pain tolerance, which is why I recommend straps if you can't use hook grip.
