In our hypercapitalist consumer culture, what we consume consumes us. Property is not liberty as the liberals have proposed, property is a fetter, a bind. We are alienated from ownness and our objects of alienation own us; we are objectified by the subject of the object.

To be without property is to be free, but to be free is to make the choice to grasp or let go. To be without property is to not necessarily to be without possession.
