"continued rapid population growth as a primary driver behind many ecological and even societal threats" That's from a statement released this week by 15,000 scientists from 184 countries.http://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/more-than-15-000-scientists-issue-warning-to-humanity-1.3675645 …

Yes, rapid population growth is definitely a primary problem within the context of a wasteful inefficient capitalist system. It's also a result of that system itself. If you look at the underlying causes of deforestation, pollution, global warming, you'll see capitalism at root.

The leading cause of deforestation and greenhouse gasses is animal agriculture. If the whole world went vegan, population control wouldn't be such an issue. If the whole world went communist, zero waste, and human needs were accounted for, population would take care of itself.

What the author proposes in this article is basically what I've been saying. End capitalism. Also, as far as I'm concerned, many of the supposedly successful ecovillages don't go nearly far enough.
-
Yeah, they also say have less children. Ending capitalism isn't enough.
