This argument is so tiresome. The truth is that humans need to stop consuming AND reduce population. Reducing it to simplistic binaries like that chart which only mentions Co2 emissions is a form of denial.
-
How do you reduce population? Genocide? Also, CO2 is a good marker for general pollution since its production is related to every other polluting industry.
-
See...people can't have this discussion without resorting to absurdities. That's why it's tiresome. Like arguing with a climate denier. Nobody mentioned genocide. Once again, CO2 isn't the only environmental problem.
-
Didn't say that CO2 is the only problem just that it's highly correlated with general pollution. Why? Because industry is fueled by it. Duh. Also, if population control doesn't mean genocide, then what? Try to control breeding? Too slow! Sorry! Not good enough.

"continued rapid population growth as a primary driver behind many ecological and even societal threats" That's from a statement released this week by 15,000 scientists from 184 countries.http://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/more-than-15-000-scientists-issue-warning-to-humanity-1.3675645 …

Yes, rapid population growth is definitely a primary problem within the context of a wasteful inefficient capitalist system. It's also a result of that system itself. If you look at the underlying causes of deforestation, pollution, global warming, you'll see capitalism at root.
-
The leading cause of deforestation and greenhouse gasses is animal agriculture. If the whole world went vegan, population control wouldn't be such an issue. If the whole world went communist, zero waste, and human needs were accounted for, population would take care of itself.
