1) they are not competitive in any sense 2) to vote “against” the party they have to cross out the name of the candidate with a red pen in front of an election official 3) at some stations there are separate boxes for no votes They are just show elections, a political census.

That's not true, there are two stages for electing a candidate. The first are through mass meetings where the candidates nominate themselves and arguments are heard with eventually one compromise candidate being agreed on.

The second stage is a secret ballot where people are allowed to block that single candidate from being elected. This is so those mass meetings aren't sites of intimidation while still being participatory and open.
