My animation framework is now live! Introducing Motion, a SIMD-powered animation framework written purely in Swift, designed for making physically-modeled, gesturally-driven user interfaces, animations, and interactions. github.com/b3ll/Motion Let me know what you think :)

1.0.5 of Albums is out and fixes a weird sync issue where you could get duplicate albums. It also adds an "Album of the Day" widget, that'll randomly show something in your collection each day :D

There’s still a lot of things I have planned (and a few bugs to fix 😇), but it's feeling great, so let me know what you think! I’m happy this is finally out and excited to see how people use it, as well as advancements in iOS 17 to add even more stuff to it in the future!

There’s a button to give feedback in the help section, as well as instructions if widgets are confusing (spoiler: they are!), so I really hope iOS improves the onboarding for that (seriously, so many people I spoke with had *no* idea they could add widgets).

It uses loads of other tricks to make the animations as smooth as possible with Pro Motion displays. It also features sync with CoreData via NSPersistentCloudKitContainer, which surprisingly wasn’t that bad at all.

The app is mostly UIKit, however I made extensive use of SwiftUI views all over the place via real cool tech like UIHostingConfiguration (thank you and team!!). Using this, the collection view cells *are* the widgets 🙂

It supports Apple Music and Spotify (for now), with others planned as wanted, as well as the potential for linking to local apps too (Dopper?).

This was kinda tricky to reimplement, one of hardest parts being figuring out the math to make the albums never clip into one another as well as land on an album perfectly when you flick. Also, drop shadows / edge glows are back!

Some albums even have gapless playback (remember that from iTunes?) and bridges that get completely lost, which aid in telling the story the artist had in mind.

Each album released by an artist is often a checkpoint in their career; often allowing you to experience how their tastes / influences changed from album to album. Playlists like "This is " can fail to describe the feel that Dive brings vs. something like Epoch.

… and while convenient, causes people to miss out on experiencing albums as a whole and remembering them. A thoughtful decision to play Lover has a lot more emotional attachment than "Hey Siri, play Country / Pop", if you know what I mean.

This app was made as a labour of love and built to restore some of the feelings you get from opening a record and playing it. A lot of streaming music apps nowadays have a huge emphasis on playing individual tracks or creating playlists…

As soon as I saw some of the early sketches from him, I knew it was perfect. I’ll leave the details for the icon for him to share😉 Thank you for making such a wonderful icon, it has genuinely inspired and pushed me to make sure the app feels well enough to do it justice.

I might be a tad biased, but the icon made in particular is one of my favourite icons I’ve ever seen. It legitimately makes me so happy anytime I see it and ranks up there my other favourites like Coda’s Leaf and Sequel Pro’s Pancake Stack.

.'s The Slow Rush was the first record I ever bought and is very special to me (for a multitude of reasons), and as such it felt very fitting to inspire a lot of the reasons why I made this app.

I found myself appreciating the albums themselves a lot more and rediscovering parts of them that I missed through my various 50+ plays on Spotify.

I started collecting records a few years ago, and while they are a lot of effort to play (open it up, carefully put it down, spin up the turntable, put the needle down, do it all again 15 minutes later because lol you only get 3 tracks!), but they're worth it.

Twitterrific is probably the app I’ve used the most in the past 16 years. I’ve never read Twitter without it. 🫡 blog.iconfactory.com/2023/01/twitte

It’s finally here! I’m very happy to show the app icon I designed for Lasso. Although the rope texture was a challenge, we are very happy with the final result. And of course it’s entirely #MadeWithSketch
