nice! I just found out about `-o pipefail` quite recently, and `-u` is new to me. As for functions: Can you declare args in their sig?

also, `if` statements do not require square braces. Any valid command will do. Consider `if grep -q fish /etc/shells; then party; fi`

You might want to explain the difference between single & double quotes. It's the source of much confusion.

Usually [ is built-in, which `type [` can tell you. Confusingly, `[[` doesn't exist in Posix shells like Dash (/bin/sh on Ubuntu).

@briantford why do you use single square braces in variables example? But recommend use double square braces?

it's bc [[ $X = $Y ]] actually works fine but you should still quote your variables

nice tips, thanks! Do you have any recommandation of backticks vs $() for command outputs? (And why?)

use $(). it nests properly and is actually supported by POSIX (unlike backtick). I urge @b0rk to edit to recommend $() over `.
