also, `if` statements do not require square braces. Any valid command will do. Consider `if grep -q fish /etc/shells; then party; fi`

You might want to explain the difference between single & double quotes. It's the source of much confusion.

Usually [ is built-in, which `type [` can tell you. Confusingly, `[[` doesn't exist in Posix shells like Dash (/bin/sh on Ubuntu).

Do you use any special equipment to make the drawings? I love the style but I don't know where to start in trying to make them!

use $(). it nests properly and is actually supported by POSIX (unlike backtick). I urge
@b0rk to edit to recommend $() over `. -
