In case you do additions, I'll vote for the jumping-host flag `-J`. It pretty new, so not many people seem to know about it and previous solutions were cumbersome. $ ssh -J user@example.com me@internal-host.lan

The ~ escape sequence reminds me of the ability to forward ports in an already open session ~C -L 8080:localhost:80 Also, I always forget about ssh-copy-id and end up manually creating and chmod'ing folders and scp'ing the pubkey.

Tilde-period is a great tip. You can use this in nested ssh sessions too, like if you're connecting from A to B to C. ~~~. would be the escape sequence to kill the connection from B to C.

I think you mean ~~. Each layer of nesting doubles the ~ (escape character). A to B is ~. B to C would be ~~. C to D would be ~~~~. D to E would be ~~~~~~~~.

ssh port forwarding was super handy a few days ago when we were trying to get to a routers web UI to find out which connected device has which IP address assigned. Felt like magic when I opened a local servers website in a remote network by browsing to localhost on my machine.

I have this setup on an internal system, A, so that i can get back in from the outside, B. In A (internal): ssh -N -R 2049:localhost:22 username@B and in B (external): ssh -YC4 -p 2049 localhost
