But yeh, the PhD sounds cool. I used to run a start-up that had a focus on addressing inequality within medical devices and had a lot of difficulties getting people to recognise it was an issue. Now it's a widely accepted problem. Rather disappointing how slow progress is.

As a large scale genomics institute we want to understand if, how and when we should collect ethnicity data and how that data should be used. It's a complex issue and we want to do it thoughtfully in order to ensure our science is both representative and of benefit.

I appreciate that. There's a lot of areas for bias, especially when dealing with racial data due to the historical context. Separately socioeconomic factors need to be considered, (which usually aren't), to negate confounders. (They will impact epigenetic variables).
