One of the problems with NHS IT procurement is that the people responsible for buying software for the NHS are rarely the ones who use these computer programmes. Clinicians are forced to use software that they had no role in selecting and which is often not their first choice.

Another issue being the market is dominated by a few monopolies that refuse to innovate or improve their UI, but essentially once a hospital has decided to go with one system (the usually more established one), it's very difficult to change.
My experience in trying integrate and provide software to the NHS has been a nightmare.
