Okay, so having read everyone’s comments I can mention multiple issues. You want people who have spent time understanding structural barriers. Lived experience is valid, but academics would have generally benefited from the existing systems — consider the people pushed out.
Marginalised academics who have made a career in academia will have survivors bias. That’s important to recognise. If you want to improve a system, you want to engage the people that have the next hurdle to overcome. Not the people who have already overcome it.

So experts should be invited and discuss the concerns with marginalised academics who have spoken out. Collectively the two can find a lists of problems. Separately students/applicants need to be part of the convo. ( they’re early in their careers and the most vulnerable).

I moved into working in the central EDI team after working in academic research for years. Hopefully bringing that lived experience and understanding into the formal role
