Of course *what* is published is of greater importance than *where*. But *where* does matter and likely always will. *Where* is brand identity. It's quick to identify and to filter by, and defines an editorial bar over which a piece of work has passed.

But in the case of funders and hiring committees, the *where* is important. We can and should aspire to change the rules, but at this moment in time, they are still the rules.

What I think matters most is: how much spin-out companies can you make out of your research. Then you can retire on island and sip on some Malibu.
