@tanvir_h there’s a lot of good podcasts. Reni Eddo-Lodge is nice.
Then @galdemzine also do a lot of interesting writings. (Zines have kind of been the progressive form of media for the past decade).
@SistersUncut might do talks.https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/about-race-with-reni-eddo-lodge/id1353151856 …

Academics circles aren’t at the forefront’s of EDI convos — makes sense, they’re not activists. (Tbh; I’ve assumed intersectional feminism was mainstream since 2012 — roughly when I first got involved). We’re almost a decade into fourth wave feminism.

Point being,
@tanvir_h focus on media from activists as they push the narrative is becoming mainstream; I’ve learnt a lot. __ White feminism focuses solely on the oppression of white women — mostly middle class women. They lead the narrative in earlier waves. They’re not allies1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 2 polubione -

And of course, latterly, many have been using their 'feminism' as a shield for their transphobia. From anything such as opposing gender neutral toilets on campus to engaging in some pretty dodgy 'feminist' scholarship.

Oh it’s not new. There’s a history of certain feminists using feminism to perpetuate racism, homophobia, classism, transphobia and shielding themselves from criticism. It’s as old as the suffragettes. https://www.thelily.com/how-racism-tore-apart-the-early-womens-suffrage-movement/ … https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/28/opinion/sunday/suffrage-movement-racism-black-women.html … https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jul/07/us-suffragette-movement-black-women-19th-amendment …

Ah. This is funny
@ProfRachelGaN I remembered you from so where. You were my Devices lecturer. Very empathetic. Defo not the norm for me as one of the very few disabled working-class BME students there. At one point you also did Microstructures.
I still have your notes

Understanding ferroelectric, pyroelectric and piezoelectric effects. Just generally the importance of directional order of polymers. Phenomenas of dislocations and pinnings etc. It allows me to see overlapping ideas in other subject areas. Applying ideas I novel ways.

It's a real mixed bag of a course, but it does highlight connections which run through materials science, which is the best part from my viewpoint.

In NatSci, MatSci & Chem Dept seem to run good courses. I was a fan of the labs, they really cemented the concepts, I wish there were more projects. It would have been good to have some materials informatics.

Sounds fun. I did Astrophysics (mostly Maths). But was barred from continuing into Part III b/c of medical complications during the exam period. (Common story for disable students there). Built an AI startup after I left, now just applying for MPhil & PhD.
