I genuinely think the best way is too look at what a supervisors requirements — you can read a lot into a person by what they look for from others. Then how many of their students are from underrepresented / marginalised backgrounds. Finally how many people are similar to you?

I think that's important, but doesn't tell the full story. The pattern of abuse isn't always clear especially with such a small sample size. Like a sexist and abusive professor might abuse a dude but then later be extra nice to his first woman student to prove he "isn't sexist."
