Accidental opioid overdose is one of the leading causes of death among young people in the US. (Around 25% of deaths in the 25 to 35 age group). In the young age group it is much deadlier than cancer (around 6%)
This the whole life-process vs disease model of addiction. I’m kind of the opinion there’s definitely an interplay between the two.

The original argument was grossly exaggerated. There are undeniable biological adaptation effects in opioid addiction. Of course psychological factors matter as well, but opioids are a dangerous thing regardless.

It's not about separating the biological and the psychological factors. It's about recognizing that most of the harm to users comes from the way society treats these drugs.
