I can relate a lot of this story given I'm from a similar background — since entering the academic, world I've been deeply disappointed in those around me. ____ I find many in academia lack understand of the most basic of structural inequalities within our society.

Uni's have cared little about the attainment gap. Otherwise they wouldn't have relied on a system where fates were defined by grades - marginalising the poor. _ Disadvantage to outliers is the norm, just the algorithm removes the feeling of agency in an already rigged system.
