The @Conservatives are a majority government (56.2% of seats) representing a minority (43.6% of votes). This means the tories have 28.8% more seats than what their vote share justifies! There is NO issue more important for the future of British democracy than electoral reform.
AV was a better system, just so poorly marketed. Thus most of the electoral had no clue what change they were really voting for.
It shouldn’t have been a referendum. Referenda are dumb.
