At an institutional level, universities do feel a lot like funds — some w/ investments that rival the size of hedge funds. There are c-level execs & board of directors. I’m not opposed to it, it’s financial management; to be expected of any corporation.

I think the concern is how the hedge fund can take priority over the educational/research mission.

When reading the article, what stood out to me was the fact that they were paying such huge investment management fees — suggesting inadequately assets management. Maybe alumni should see their donations more as investments and expect a type of non-monetary return?
