I'm a little disturbed by how much people like my "we're probably doing neuroscience wrong" tweet

Don’t you think computational neuroscience techniques are further unlocking our understanding or neuroscience? Or that we need to focus more on brain-imaging and image processing?

I think we'd most benefit from more focus on behavior and diversity of thought, including recent developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

You know that thing that happens on Wikipedia sometimes, where someone will make something up, then a journalist cites it, then that article is used as supporting evidence? That same thing happens all the time between neuron and AI.

That’s why I was wondering if we could use spiking neural networks alongside brain imaging techniques, to see if there’s an overlap. Are the models observed in nature? And do they function in the way our theory predicts?

Maybe that’s how things are already being done. Some of the brain imaging papers I’ve read don’t attempt to model the networks. So I’m wondering - hmm.. maybe it’s not that common.
