It's definitely idealistic. I made the mistake of making decisions that made me a better scientists... ... but were terrible for my career progression. From experience I would say, when you are young focus on career progression.

I believe that becoming a better scientist should be the goal but, again, I am aware that the incentives are misaligned with that. Then, there are ways forward.

I’m still trying to discover paths forwards; I’m very early in my career. Literally graduated in 2019, though I do hear people say this a lot.

Any details you would like to share about what you did and what you would do differently looking back?

I’m in my 20s and posting about my experience would be unwise. It’s opening myself up to prejudice. Science today is box-ticking. It’s not expanding ones mind (as I had hoped), but knowing how to navigate internal politics and ensure one fits in.
