One of the reasons I'm leaving research after my PhD is because I had a past mentor early in grad school who treated me with complete unprofessionalism but got no consequence because they were protected by research prestige. Toxic work culture pushes people out of academia. 1/
I’m reminded of my undergrad days and how I was bullied by fellows of the college (who had pastoral roles). It was a very long healing process. I know amazing labs do exist, but we need to hold people accountable for their behaviour.
