A handful of new coronavirus variants have emerged, sparking fears they may be more transmissible, lethal, or evade immunity acquired by prior infection or vaccines. The UK variant shows that SARS-Cov2 is capable of becoming transmissible and lethal.
A global response would not just save millions of lives in countries unable to acquire vaccines, but also reduce R<1 reducing the risk of mutations. Viruses will always be able to cross borders, thus nationalistic thinking makes no sense.
