Completely agree! LOR and grades don’t describe person’s innate skills and passion. Someone like me, it’s hard to find professors who actually remember me post being in corporates a long time, & grades depend purely on that ‘1-hour’ state of mind.
Agreed.
A lot of my friends were victims of abuse (either sexual or physical or had medical complications. Of course impacting their their grades.
All were pushed out of academia. 
It’s a depressing that the industry is more accommodating than the academia in this area.
