How about Natural Sciences, computer science and mathematics? Why are they restricting the spectrum of choices/leave out Science?

One possible explanation is that the intake is particularly skewed towards private educated UK students in Humanities, Social Sciences, etc. while the intake is much more international and less skewed towards privilege in Maths, Natural Sciences are much more

We've both studied CS/Stats at Cambridge. I don't know what was the case in your lab, but I can recall several students coming from privileged background/own-founding their PhDs at mine. Also, in terms of diversity, I've been the only (openly) disabled since 2016, in my Unit

(I didn't want to argue that focussing on Humanities is the right thing to do or sufficient, just say that those courses/departments may have partricularly poor statistics that they might want to answer with this)

I imagine it’s more likely an issue with the departments. In my experience the physics and maths departments were the least progressive in the university and at times actively regressive. I recall facing a lot of prejudice for my working class background or having a disability.
