@tdietterich Tom, the problem of lack of diversity and inclusion efforts is rampant not only at Google but in every tech company and university I know. You’ve been to #neurips and other similar AI conferences. It was frankly scary for my partner to meet me #neurips 1/https://twitter.com/tdietterich/status/1339381583602536448 …

Saying this is only a Google problem is damaging to the DEI cause. Googlers still have a voice and will keep fighting to bring change here. But where’s the voices of academia and other companies? What does all the silence mean? 2/

I believe the majority is silent because it’s too comfortable for them, or because they are afraid. I’ve never in 23 years of attending
#neurips witnessed so much fear in our community. There’s so much hurt too. The only way to fix this is to bring about positive change. 3/1 odpowiedź 1 podany dalej 13 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
Please ask your managers, professors and colleagues what they’re doing to address diversity. Then tweet it ! 4/

I’ve been in AI for 27 years. I keep hearing we’re going to do something about it, but decades later it’s nearly the same. I beg every prof, student, researcher to not be complacent about this. Otherwise we’ll just see more hurt and polarised views. We need to stand united. 7/

I definitely agree with this sentiment. I’ve heard discussions about inclusion for decades. But that’s all they ever are. Discussions. 20 years later I still hear people discussing the same problems as when I was 7.
