Good balanced article, but don't hold your breath, it won't provide a definite answer to the 'Asia Covid exception', which is fair enough, given that we still have no clue ...https://unherd.com/thepost/what-really-explains-the-asia-covid-exception/ …

I’m not sure if it’s that much of an exception or much that the countries within this region are more familiar with how to handle outbreaks and thus have better resilience. Widespread use of face masks are common due to past pandemics. Local government know how to respond, etc.

Wrong. I live in Malaysia. I'm here right now. You have no idea how poorly Malaysia government sector or health sector functions.

Does anybody have a theory about why this is happening?

It seriously bothers me when people say how well Asia handles things because cases are low. Do they have any idea how incompetent government and government services are in S.E. Asia. Not to mention the tiny budgets S.E. Asian countries have.

@freddiesayers think about MASK HYGIENE: 100's of millions of S.E. Asians wear the same mask and never change because it costs money they need for food. May as well NOT be wearing one.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 1 polubiony -
Yes I've thought that so many were wearing the same mask, this occurred to me back in March when China was the epicenter, I thought about how many people were always wearing the same mask just for appearances....

I agree. I love Malaysia, but I can say Malaysia does "appearances" better than actual substance. My guess is that there are biological factors at play. Previous exposure to corona viruses maybe?

hygiene here is: We wash our butts with our hands after poo (myself included). public toilets mostly don't have soap. We live in a hot humid, crowded country bacteria and virus are thriving. Have you ever seen restaurant kitchen here? Or smell the sewage & rubbish in the roads?
